Visitor Experience Associate (Customer Service, Cashier)

Description:

Reports to: Visitor Experience Managers

Position Details: Part-Time & Full-Time positions available; $11.00/hour

Visitor Experience Associates (VEAs) serve a dual role in promoting the Museum’s 5 Star experience for all visitors by receiving cross training for both the admissions desk and museum exhibits. VEAs provide great customer service, maintain exhibit spaces according to our safety, security and cleanliness procedures; support museum education activities, programs and events, and help make the museum accessible and exciting for all families



Main Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors with professional customer service, and ensure a welcoming, courteous, and safe environment
  • Provide visitors with general information regarding museum exhibits, programs, and services
  • Promote the Power of Play by engaging with children and families to maximize learning and enjoyment in the museum
  • Manage information desk; answer phone, assist with visitors’ inquires and make building announcements
  • Staff the greeter and climber posts to ensure safety and security for visitors
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and trainings
  • Perform Admission or Exhibit duties as assigned on the daily staff schedule
  • Perform open and close procedures with a focus on restock, cleaning and sanitizing
  • Adhere to Museum policies and procedures
  • Other duties as required

Exhibit Responsibilities

  • Interact with children and families to promote an engaging and child-centered learning experience
  • Staff daily assigned activities and programs in exhibit spaces
  • Prep materials for activities, programs and events
  • Support educators during scheduled programs and events
  • Assist with crowd control during busy operational hours, such as holidays, weekends and school vacation weeks

Admissions Responsibilities

  • Accurately process cash, credit, pass and discount transactions
  • Adhere to internal controls according to admissions policies and procedures
  • Reconcile assigned cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift
  • Accurately capture demographic info and visitor data
  • Promote membership sales and process membership renewals
  • Complete all admissions forms with great attention to detail
  • Support Museum fundraising campaigns
  • Data entry tasks as required


Qualifications:


Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience with young children (ages 0-10) and their families in recreational settings
  • Previous work experience in retail, sales or customer service
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of staff and visitors
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact positively with children, adults, and large groups
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Available on weekends and holidays


Additional Experience, a plus

  • College experience with related course work or equivalent work experience in non-profits,education, family learning or retail
  • Previous cash handling experience 
  • Fluency in a second language 
  • Previous museum experience
