The Office of the Arts at Emerson College is seeking motivated, responsible, and dependable part-time ushers to serve as Head Ushers. Head Ushers require a professional dress code and are often required to stand for periods up to 4.5 hours. Weeknights and weekends are required.
Lead House and Lobby Ushers to see to the safety and comfort of the guests.
Be the first responder to usher requests for management assistance.
Respond to all guest comments and complaints in a friendly and sincere manner.
Explain and enforce the theatre and college policies.
Allow or disallow access into the theatre based on credentials or tickets.
Have a thorough knowledge of the venue layout and the ability to direct to varied areas of the theatre from a memorized plan.
Verify, record, and maintain an accurate drop count for event.
Manage lobby set-up and breakdown.
Monitor the patrons and staff to ensure safety and security.
Assist guests with specific needs.
In an emergency, manage ushers and additional evacuation staff and know when every region is fully evacuated. Communicate information to all evacuation teams and lead staff to help guests to re-enter if allowed, consistent with Emerson policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Must have previous experience in theatre management or as a Lobby Usher at Emerson College.
Excellent customer skills required, including tact, patience, and a sense of humor.
Must be confident, friendly, and personable.
Must be a team player who is able to work well in a fast-paced environment.
An interest in theatre and a genuine desire to work with the public is a plus.
